Joseph Saah, MFT (MFC 02138) is a Marriage and Family Therapist licensed to practice in California. He received his Master’s Degree in Clinical Psychology from John F. Kennedy University in 1984, and has an undergraduate degree in General Studies from Harvard University. He is a founding partner of The Men’s Center for Counseling and Psychotherapy, and conducts men’s groups through this organization, as well as maintaining a private practice. He has over 27 years of experience providing therapy to adult individuals, couples, and adolescents for a range of problems including depression, anxiety, anger management, parenting, and men’s issues. 510-644-8262  Warm, down-to-earth, and patient, Richard Bloom has a reputation for working effectively with couples and with individuals who suffer from depression and anxiety, are in recovery, or need to heal from a difficult childhood. He began in 1974 as a drug and alcohol counselor, earned his master's degree in 1982 with a thesis on marital counseling, became a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in 1984, and has taught at Sonoma State University and CSU, Hayward. Berkeley: 510-548-8285 Santa Rosa: 707-665-0846  Bill Burmester, M.A., M.F.T. has been a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in private practice in California since 1994, with training and experience in the treatment of sexual abuse and other relational trauma. He has worked with child, adolescent, and adult survivors of sexual abuse, adolescent and adult perpetrators, and abusive family systems. He facilitates Groups for Men Healing from Sexual Abuse in conjunction with The Men's Center for Counseling and Psychotherapy and treats issues of trauma, Dissociative Disorders, and PTSD in work with both men and women. 510-644-0419 Peter Tichenor, MFT Peter Tichenor, Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT) has been associated with the Men's Center since 1987. He combines object relations and family systems perspectives in his work with individuals, couples and groups. Work with veterans and other trauma survivors has given him a special interest in issues of post trauma, survivor guilt, loss, and recovery. Peter also has a license in Clinical Hypnotherapy (CHT) which is a useful therapeutic adjunct in dealing with "creative blocks" by finding and "un-hypnotising" the unconscious, conflicting emotional states that are holding a person in the stuck-point. He works with both men and women and has a particular specialty in men's emotional experience and "good enough fathering." 510-525-2411 John Hammerman, MFT John Hammerman, LMFT, has worked with individuals, couples, and groups since 1988, and has been a Men’s Center associate since 1990. He is particularly interested in issues of communication, self-esteem, intimacy, and mid-life transitions. John works actively with clients to deal with obstacles to full participation and enjoyment of life and relationships. He facilitates two groups here, one of which has been ongoing for over fifteen years. John enjoys the interactive dynamics, whereby one individual’s issues trigger identifications and feelings within other group members. Bob Shelby, MFT Bob Shelby graduated in 1982 with a master’s degree in counseling psychology and a specialization in marriage and family therapy. He was licensed in 1985 and opened a private practice in Berkeley. In 1988 he began supervising trainees in his private practice and at J.F. Kennedy University. He joined the Men’s Center for Counseling and Psychotherapy in 1988 and facilitated men’s groups for eleven years.
